Miss August

Time to say hello to a great friend of mine.  I have witness her go from a vegan newbie to an experienced veteran of the plant based world.  Like so many she understands how healthy one can be by eliminating animal protein but she started her journey for ethical reasons.  The healthy side of the lifestyle was a huge bonus to her.  Make sure that you check out more about Miss August Ravan!!!

Where do you live and where are you from?

I currently live in Los Angeles, CA but my heart and hometown is Carmichael, CA

Age? 23

What do you do for a living/profession?

Jeez what don’t I do!? Well for my day job (or maybe I should say night job) I watch people sleep…  O.o … lol not in a creepy way, I promise! I’m a Polysomnographic Technologist. I know, I know lots of words! Basically I study and treat people for sleeping disorders in a medical facility. I also model, dabble in marketing/advertising and I’m a full time mommy of two beautiful amazing puppies!

What do you like to do for fun?

Working out , spending time with my family, playing with my pups, hiking, taking selfies (I know lame right!?), drawing,  and most of all cooking, creating and EATING new foods!

How long have you been vegan?A year and a half but it feels like it’s been a good 12 years 🙂

Why did you become vegan?

Originally ethical reasons but after making the change I realized how healthy it was for me. I wanna live to be 120 man :)!

IMG_0123 copy 2How was your transition?

It was rough >.< one day I wasn’t vegan the next day I was. I didn’t educate or prepare like I should have. I think I could probably teach What Not To Do For Vegans 101 lol but I think I have things under control now 😉

What is the funniest misconception(s) that you have heard about vegans?

That were all hippies 🙂 and we don’t have a variety of food..?.. I don’t know about you but my kitchen is stocked with a variety of food 24/7!

What is your Favorite thing(s) about being a vegan?

Have you ever gone to; oh lets say Carl’s Jr and gotten a Famous Star w/Cheese+Mayo (of course) , Waffle Fries and a large drink?Mmmm right?! Yeah until you can feel the grease and sludge making its way to your stomach and WHAM that instant feeling of immobilization you just want to un-button your pants and die until it passes. Well lets just say I never have to worry about that feeling again 🙂

What do you think makes a Sexy Bad Ass Vegan?

I think anyone attempting to live a Vegan lifestyle is a sexy bad ass! This lifestyle can be easy for some and difficulty for others, it takes courage to do anything “out of the norm” and anyone who tries gets two thumbs up in my book! 🙂

What is the best vegan dish that you make in your kitchen?

Ok so before I was vegan I LOVED tuna sandwiches so this is def a personal favorite I like to call it… Duh… Duh… Duh… GARBANZUNA!

I mash up one or two cans of garbanzo beans depending on how fat I feel that day, add vegenaise, mustard, chopped pickles and celery, salt and pepper to taste. Spread it on your bread of choice with lettuce or spinach and BAM the best sandwich on the planet (well I think so at least) 🙂 there’s no set measurements just your own tastebuds you can also add cheyenne or jalapenos if you like spicy 😉

What is the best Vegan Restaurant you have ever had the pleasure of eating at?

Well there’s a pizza joint in Garden Grove, CA  it’s called Vegan Pizza lol google it! It’s by far the BEST pizza and bread sticks I’ve ever had I think I ate half the pizza and yes it was the largest they serve (go big or go home) we had the Meat Lovers Pizza. It’s so good that I drive about an hour and a half to get there and it’s worth every minute spent driving!

What advice do you have for those that are thinking of transitioning to a vegan lifestyle?

Do your research and do it on your time, trying to go vegan once or twice a week is still great! As a vegan I want everyone trying to transition to have a great experience and not feel pressured to go full out vegan if they’re not ready the goal is to be healthy in all states especially mentally; I’ve seen others try and feel so great the first week but maybe have a non vegan slip up and feel like they failed and gave up completely because they couldn’t do it.

Most importantly try to get your friends and family involved! Have fun by having weekly dinners to showcase your new amazing recipes that will blow their socks off!

Do you have a website to share with the BAV nation?

Not yet however I’m in the process of starting my vegan blog but for now you can catch me on Instagram @ravanrichards
