Meet Miss Septermber, Mikhaila!!!
Name: Mikhaila Christian
Where do you live and where are you from? I live in Las Vegas, NV but I was born and raised in Los Angeles, Ca. I’ll be residing in Maui, Hawaii starting September 17th! Spreading the Vegan love everywhere.
What do you do for a living/profession? I inspire athletes through support, accountability, and teamwork for optimal performance, mental clarity and endurance as a means to commit, nourish and succeed. In addition to health coaching, I am a “Raw Foods Chef” specializing in gourmet meal delivery and detox juice cleanses through my company, Get Juicey, LLC. Currently, I am working on my very first recipe book, which will consist of fruit smoothies for women. It is set to be released January 2014!
What do you like to do for fun? Hiking and any beach related activities are a must in my life! The concept of exploring nature is just so fascinating to me. I love preparing foods and recipe developing (yes I really love this) as well as blogging about health and beauty.
How long have you been vegan?Almost 4 years.
Why did you become vegan? I read the China Study by T. Collin Campbell, and was compelled to make it a part of my lifestyle to prevent disease, look and feel healthier, reduce my carbon footprint on the environment as well as my compassion towards all animals alike. Not to mention the beauty benefits from all of the phytonutrients and enzymes!
How was your transition? Once I became aware of how consuming animal foods affects us in many harmful ways, I was immediately persuaded. It wasn’t that hard of a transition. Dairy was probably the hardest food group to give up, but I soon found vegan alternatives and I never looked back.
What is the funniest misconception(s) that you have heard about vegans? That we don’t get enough protein. Being a RAW vegan I think it’s even funnier that people always ask me this. I have also heard that we are weak, and will not get all of the nutrients that we need. My favorite line is “I can’t eat like you because I have to eat REAL food.” Haha!
What is your Favorite thing(s) about being a vegan? I would have to say that becoming Vegan has spread light into my life in so many directions! My favorite thing is being able to connect with animals differently and deeper, especially ever since I got my pet yorkie, Coco. What makes one animal a pet and another food right?
Another thing I love about being Vegan is being able to make conscious decisions in this world in regards to what products I use, what I wear and eat. I am now more aware and able to educate others.
Also, I love the energy and spirit I have from maintaining a consistent RAW vegan lifestyle. I am eating plant food powered by the sun in it’s most purest form. Life gives life! I have never been happier, and could not imagine going back.
What do you think makes a Sexy Bad Ass Vegan?I think what makes a Sexy Bad Ass Vegan would mainly have to be confidence. Being confident in your actions and thoughts and doing what your intuition leads you to do is so sexy. Not letting anyone hold you back or sway your thinking or choices. Overall, owning yourself and your confidence is sexy and it’s even sexier when your shouting it to the world, despite what the world has to say!
What is the best vegan dish that you make in your kitchen? This has got to be my favorite recipe that I share with everyone ! A fellow Raw Foodie Chef gave me the recipe and I modified it, creating ….Super Sexy Green Goddess SmoothieHere’s the video I shot for a step by step instruction.½ Avocado
1 Persian Cucumber (or ½ of regular)
1 stalk of celery
1 handful of baby greens or other greens
2” peeled ginger
1/3 cup of lemon juice
1 T. raw Coconut Nectar
1 T. Flax seed or Udo’s oil
1 t. Liquid Chlorophyll
1 C. Purified Water
½ cup of ice cubes
Option of adding 1 ½ ripe pears
Chop all ingredients into blendable chunks, and please make sure the Ginger is cut nice and small. You can also use a microplane to grate the ginger finely. Blend on high until smooth. Makes 1 quart. Drink all of it!
What is the best Vegan Restaurant you have ever had the pleasure of eating at?M.A.K.E. at Santa Monica Place has got to be the best place I have ever eaten at. It’s raw vegan gourmet culinary art. Literally, it’s like having a burst of flavor exploding in your mouth. How sexy is that ? I love that place so much I even took there basic and advanced culinary courses and now I am a Raw Foods Chef with intense knowledge.
What advice do you have for those that are thinking of transitioning to a vegan lifestyle? I would say take it slow. Don’t try to go cold turkey all at once because that is a recipe for failure. I have been developing a 12 week approach where you cut out one thing at a time. This information is coming soon to my blog.
I think the first thing to cut out in regards to preserving your health would be any red meat. That was the first thing I cut out when I wanted to go healthy and I promise you’ll feel the changes right away.
