Name:
Lasse Larsen

Where do you live and where are you from?  Los Angeles, CA I’m originally from Denmark.

Age? Lets say I’m 30

What do you do for a living/profession?  Model, President and co-founder of Lux & Eco

What do you like to do for fun? Anything active really, or just enjoy company with friends and good people. I’m easy to entertain, I love a good laugh.

How long have you been vegan?
10 years now and counting…

Why did you become vegan?  That’s a long story, but the short version is, The first time I was 15-16 and enamored with the so called “Straight edge” Scene, and decided to become vegan. It lasted about a year or so. Then in 2003 I was inspired by a few friends in Miami during my stay there and decided to take the jump, and I’ve never looked back since. It happened pretty much overnight so to speak. I was seeking something, but wasn’t sure what, becoming an herbivore was part of the answer to what I was looking for.

How was your transition?  At first it was pretty seamless. I did notice my body change and I lost some weight, but after making some adjustments to my diet I gained that weight back again. I have never felt better on a consistent level than I do now and did after I changed my lifestyle. The most noticeable changes were my energy levels, which really showed. I have so much energy and don’t usually get drowsy like I used to after a good meal. After being on the journey this long I feel younger than when I started and also more focused and energized.

What is the funniest misconception(s) that you have heard about vegans?  I don’t know about funniest, but the most common one is where we get our protein from, and if we can stay healthy on ONLY a rabbit diet with vegetables. I think the most amusing comment I keep getting is… What do you eat??? It always strikes me since I have noticed there is so much more to eat as a vegan than as a carnivore, I mean it kind of opens your need to experiment and eat a more varied diet.

What is your Favorite thing(s) about being a vegan?  Everything! The amount of time for my muscles to recover, feeling younger, feeling healthier, feeling great knowing that I no longer live according to limited beliefs about who I am, sexual stamina, I mean what else is there lol, I live because of this!

What do you think makes a Sexy Bad Ass Vegan?   I think someone who’s found a balance between nutrition, diet, spiritual essence and life in general will exude all that means to be a sexy BAD ASS vegan. I also think its BAD ASS to dare to stand with the few and trust in ones choices to be and stay vegan, since there is quite the opposition

What is the best vegan dish that you make in your kitchen?  Oooh that’s a tough one…! Ok one that comes to mind, which is super easy to make is the Raw Zucchini Pasta with basil pesto.

What is the best Vegan Restaurant you have ever had the pleasure of eating at?  There are a few in LA that I’ve enjoyed eating at, Real food daily and Café Gratitude are great places with great food.

What advice do you have for those that are thinking of transitioning to a vegan lifestyle?  Enjoy the ride, this is not a fad or hype. At times it can be challenging and its important to be kind to yourself and allow for changes to happen, both those that feel good and those that feel less pleasant. Trust your instincts and don’t fall prey to old habits when times may kick your ass a little, I’ve seen so many people fall back on old dietary habits because they experienced discomfort during the transition. Know that this too shall pass and that you are on a good… no great journey. You will NEVER NEED to eat any animal foods for any reason again. You may WANT to, and that’s a whole other topic.
