Where do you live and where are you from?  I am from Euless, Texas  (D/FW area) Currently reside in Riverside area of California for way too long. I’m officially a TEXAFORNIAN

Age?  35 Years Young

What do you do for a living/profession?  I am a PROFESSIONAL PROBLEM SOLVER. Riverside County Probation Department pays me and Palm Springs Unified School District does too for my skill set of working with the troubled youth in the county.  (I’m accepting donations too though.)

What do you like to do for fun?  Playing, coaching and officiating basketball is how I clear my mind.  I also enjoy making people laugh for fun… It’s a gift to make people smile and laugh. I can’t give you any money but I’ll definitely give you a few chuckles, memories, and smiles. (disclaimer: Bring your chapstick. Can’t have you laughing with bleeding busted lips that look like flakey pastries)

How long have you been vegan?  It’ll be 3 years Vegan on June 1st 2014. I did vegetarian for a year prior to going vegan but being in Southern California eating In N Out Grill Cheeses & Quesadillas became dangerous. So after a year and an extra 60 lbs, I went Vegan for the self discipline and I felt like I owed it to myself and the people I care about.

Why did you become vegan?  I changed my lifestyle after my father was diagnosed with Cancer. Doing the research it was obvious to me that food played a part in. Pops passed on May 30th 2010. I changed it up June 1st 2010.

1526547_10152092036726112_1016991957_nHow was your transition?   My transition was an expensive one. Not even from the food standpoint but from the clothes stand point. I’m 6’11 (not a typo) and was flirting with that 400lb Club and finding clothes was a pricey scavenger hunt. Hearing people think I played football instead of basketball was the other sign I was getting too big. “Oh, you’re tall, it doesn’t look bad on you.” The lies family & friends tell….

What is the funniest misconception(s) that you have heard about vegans?  I think I’m the funniest vegan misconception. A tall tattooed Texan Vegan that’s Black. ( I guess people think Vegans should look like Moby) The other funny part is when you tell people you’re Vegan, all the sudden they have a PHD in health and medicine and want to tell me about my protein intake and how much I need.

What is your Favorite thing(s) about being a vegan?  A few of my favorite things about being Vegan is I don’t have to eat people’s food at Potlucks. I use to have a saying “ If I have to ask who made it, I don’t need to eat it.” Being Vegan has also opened dialog and minds to many people in my life. They’re willing to educate themselves about the lifestyle from all aspects not just the eating. Being creative in the kitchen has also been a highlight over the past few years. Chef Boyer B is in full effect often.

What do you think makes a Sexy Bad Ass Vegan?  Confidence is a key ingredient to being a Sexy Bad Ass Vegan. Having the confidence to walk a sometime lonely path but also being able to inform others that are interested in your journey. Also taking part in selfless service. Giving to causes greater than myself and being blessed enough to be a blessing to others.

What is the best vegan dish that you make in your kitchen?  In the kitchen I try to get creative and make some of my childhood Southern favorites (Vegan Style) Catfish Fried Tofu, Jambalaya, and my famous mac n cheese.

What is the best Vegan Restaurant you have ever had the pleasure of eating at?  I don’t know if I have a best restaurant when it comes to vegan eateries but I’m pretty frequent at several Native Food Cafes, The Veggie Grill & Thai Vegan in the So-Cal area. I don’t mind traveling for good food. It’s even better when its with great company.

What advice do you have for those that are thinking of transitioning to a vegan lifestyle?  Those that are thinking of joining the Vegan Gang, I say DO IT!!!!! What do you have to lose other than weight, cholesterol, lower blood pressure, and other diseases traced to diary and other animal proteins. You keep procrastinating over and over. Maybe I’ll start next year, maybe next summer. NO! Do it right now! The fruits and veggies will work witchu after work, or you can do it before work. Do whatever you need to do to GO VEGAN. Go talk to somebody right now, they out to help you. YOU SPEND ALL DAY ON THE PHONE ANYHOW! Why not make a call that’s going to help you in the future. All you gotta do is pick up the phone and make the call…Why you makin’ it complicated? It’s easy.“ LOL
